The Hawk Hanger

The Hawk Hanger

The Hawk Hanger is a basic chain type Hanger that I've been making for near on 20 years now and in that time not one has ever snapped, corroded or been returned with a fault. The reason why is simple, as with all MPS Indicators only the very best materials are ever used. The Stainless Steel Chain used in the Hawk's is the very best money can buy, it's of a welded Link construction, it's impossible to snap it even thou it's still has a narrow gauge

There is no set length - they can any length for the same cost up to 8" long (Raw Chain length) at no extra cost

Hawks can be fitted with any Mag Head in the range you wish, but I find the ideal size to be the 38mm x 1/2" version as fitted to example above

                                The Banshee Hanger

Banshee Hanger

It got its name way back in autumn 2003 on the very first time on the bank, it was a very stormy night with the wind howling like a "Banshee", tree's making cracking noises as they swayed almost to breaking point in the powerful gale. It was instantly noted that my Alarms were not making any "False Bleeps" even thou they were swaying about and waves hitting the lines were they entered the water. The other four on the bank were using in vogue at the time Indicators with Sink Ball Chains or the equally useless Dacron chorded ones, and their Alarms were singing their little heads off in the severe weather conditions!

The design has hardly changed from that autumn night, I'd cracked it first time - by using a woven 316 Stainless Steel chord which when formed into a "U" shape it becomes semi-ridged and in turn windproof, not just that the cord is unbreakable with a 560kg breaking strain

If I was to pick one Indicator to use for all the many forms of fishing be it for Catfish to Perch it would be the Banshee, it's just so sensitive and pick up any real movement every time with the very slight tension it adds to the main line

Can be fitted with any of the Mag Head range, but the ideal size is the 1/2" diameter versions

A Merlin "Max" set in a "U" shape, via double sided tape!

The Stainless Steel highly flexible Merlin "Max" Chord

The Merlin "Max"

Based on the original Merlin Indicator but the Chord has been "Maxxed out" to the strongest, most flexible design possible without becoming a full blown "Springer Type Indicator".

The Merlin "Max" neatly fills that niche between the Banshee and the Scorpion, to take real Photo of the Chord set in a U shape (as in use) I had to resort to strong double sided tape to hold it in position, blue tack would not! It may not look pretty in a photo but it's "real"  not a misleading CGI

Totally windproof when set into a "U Shape" , it does add a little tension onto the line but not a silly amount, just enough to make it an highly sensitive set up suitable for most situations.

The Scorpion Hanger, designed and built for Long Range and Snag Fishing

Internally fitted Tension Rods to prevent breakages

Scorpion Hanger

The Scorpion Hanger, the very first Indicator I invented in the late 90's  was even adopted by Solar Tackle under licence (Was called The Adjustable Quiver Lock) still just as efficient at putting fish on the bank as way back then.  Can be used as a Hanger or as a "Springer" with tension Rods inserted into the hollow chamber in the Stainless Steel Flexi Chord.
Can be fitted with any size Mag Head but the 38 x 20mm size with it's powerful Twin Line Clip mechanism was specifically designed for the Scorpion, for when customers wish to use under extreme tension by fitting readily available solid Carbon Rods. For when fishing tight to snags or at extreme range a Scorpion would be my first option every time.

Supplied with a medium strength solid carbon Inner Tension Rod

                      Precision formed solid Titanium Arm

Probably the tartiest looking Indicator I've ever made, they even look the business under my vintage North Western Rods and DSi Alarms.

They don't just look good thou - they are an highly effective Indicator with the capability to cater for all forms of static fishing.

             The Rotary Warlock

What's so special about the Rotary Warlock? Bit of a basic physics lesson will explain - All Alarms be it Roller or Vibration Sensing work on the same basic principle "The transfer and detection of any motion of the fishing line " (A bite) It's that simple, and easily achieved in dry conditions when maximum friction between the line, but in wet or frosty weather conditions that's another matter, just like your vehicles tyres lose grip through lack of grip (Friction) so does an Alarm, especially when an Indicator is positioned in such a way that the Line only makes contact with a fraction of the Roller/sensors surface area.

The formed shape of the Rotary Warlock's Arm is designed to drive the line towards the front of the Alarm,  forcing the line to make maximum possible contact with the Alarms Roller/Sensor. This is achieved by the design using highly advanced parts and materials - the rigid arm is crafted from solid Titanium, which pivots on a precision spherical Chromium Ball Joint providing precision movement on a par with a swiss watch allowing for self-alignment in the vertical axis, these are very expensive parts normally used extensively in top of the range Drones etc.. but they are also the very best quality too.

To set for slacklining you just simply let the arm drop to it's lowest position, were it then becomes totally weightless.

The Rotary utilises the same well proven Quick Release fitting as all the other Defiant MPS Indicators do which allows for instant fitment, removal and alignment. Can be fitted with any of the size/colour Mag Heads in the extensive range, the example shown is fitted with a 32mm x 1/2" MKI Yellow Mag Head.

The Rail Indicator, a pure joy to see in motion!

The Rail Indicator

Decades ago I promised that one day I'd take the Monkey Climber concept - totally re-design it, iron out the many flaws, hence "The Rail Indicator" was born.

Based on the standard Defiant MPS Bracket that's not changed in over 20 years, made from thick Marine Stainless Steel, but rather than having a Quick release

fitting incorporated, the "Rail" fits via Allan Screw/Key (4mm provided with a set) - this guarantee's a totally ridged "Wobble free" mounting (Unlike the original Monkey Climber design of old that used to wobble all over the place) The Dome Head Allan Screw also makes sure there's nothing for the line to snag onto in the vicinity of the Alarm.

A Rail's removable precision Bobbin assembly

Up-graded for 2024 with dry maintenance free Linear Bearings Incorporated inside the Bobbin, as you can see in the short video, the Bobbin moves up and down the Rail like it's on Ice, there's zero friction with being bearing mounted (Unlike the original Monkey Climbers, which were terrible!)
The Bobbin can actually be removed from the Rail by simply removing the Knurled Thumb Nut from the base of the solid Titanium Rail. The line clip that's built into the Bobbin is the standard x3 strength Mag Head type line clip. There is also a Isotope chamber that takes a 15 x 3mm Isotope, but not in the normal vertical axis - it fits in a Horizontal axis, which is much more visible with the Bobbin being in a angled position.

                                Rigid Stainless Steel Mounting

In Use:

I've still been using the 3 prototypes I made November 2022 for all my winter fishing, for mainly Pike fishing in all weathers, from howling gales, monsoon conditions, snow storms, heavy frosts etc.............. they have seen it all, preforming the task flawlessly with no false bleeps, no missed runs. It's an absolute joy to watch a bite developing as the Bobbin twitches up and down the Rail.

Something I've not personally done this but a friend uses Rails as "Drop-Off" Indicators from the Butt Rest end with open Bale Arm, they certainly are an efficient Pike Indicator used this way as well.

Plus using them at all ranges, with numerous set ups - including Carp Rods, Barbel Rods, Heavy Catfish Rods, Fixed Spool Reels, Centre Pin Reels even under-slung Multipliers, loaded with both Mono and Braid, whatever I used did not make an iota of difference in performance.  Also with the Bobbins direction of movement being set any "odd" movement that the Alarm has not picked up, usually from the line settling and absorbing water thus getting heavier.

General Fishing: set Bobbin mid position on the Rail - forward take it travels up the Rail, a drop back it travels down the Rail

Slack-Lining: set Bobbin at the base of the Rail with the line just holding the Bobbin vertical - using Running Lead set up obviously, the Bobbin will travel up the Rail

Snag Fishing: set the Bobbin at the top of the Rail - on a take the line pings out of the clip and the Bobbin hurtles down the Rail

It could not be any simpler to set or use, I've up-loaded a short video to YouTube https://youtu.be/pkM8DNwZ9XI  that says it all in just a few seconds.

Adaptor Fitting - allowing all other Defiant MPS Indicators to use the Rail's mounting Bracket also

Rail Adaptor Fitting: by fitting one of these to your Rail's mounting, you can then utilise the same mounting to fit any other Defiant MPS Indicator
